Who is Emma Raducanu?
Raducanu was born in Bucharest, Romania, on 24 June 2002. She first picked up a racket at the age of four and began playing tennis at six. Raducanu’s family moved to Britain when she was eight years old, and also she became a British citizen in 2014.
Raducanu has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the world in junior singles. And also won two junior Grand Slam titles: the 2018 French Open and the 2019 Wimbledon Championships. “I am just really happy that I can represent my country in this way,” she said.
“It has been a long journey and I have had to overcome so much to get here, but it is worth it.
“I feel like I could have achieved more if the pandemic hadn’t halted the tennis season and stopped me from competing in junior tournaments. But there is still time for me to improve and reach my goals.”
